I’m Karen Joy Lever, a UKCP registered Child and Adolescent Psychotherapist, specialising in working with children and families. I have been working as a Child and Adolescent Psychotherapist since 2008 in schools, charities, and privately. I have experience working one-to-one therapeutically with children, supporting parents and carers and running therapy groups.

I have also completed additional trainings in couples counselling, parent-child therapy, and reflective parenting.

I am the lead therapist in two primary schools where I offer children both one-to-one therapy and group therapy. In these schools, I manage a service overseeing trainees who are doing their therapeutic placements. I work closely in schools with teachers and Sencos.

I also offer Parent Space where I provide personalised parenting support sessions online.

A little bit about me

I am committed to helping children feel better about themselves. I aim to support them to manage their relationships with others and the world around them with greater joy and ease.

I facilitate this process by providing an empathic and respectful therapeutic relationship in a safe, caring and confidential space where children can explore their feelings and experiences.

I am also committed to helping parents navigate the sometimes challenging journey of parenting. I support parents by providing a space where they can understand themselves better and reflect on their own lives, in turn helping them process what is happening currently in their relationship with their children. My hope is that I can support parents and children to have deeper connections and stronger bonds.

I believe in the power of early intervention and I am particularly interested in helping parents with children under the age of 12.

Training & Qualifications

I am UKCP accredited and work in various settings including schools and in private practice.

I have a postgraduate Advanced Diploma in the Therapeutic Application of the Arts and a Masters in Integrative Child Psychotherapy. I have also completed training in parent-child therapy at The Institute for Arts in Therapy and Education, reflective parenting at the Anna Freud Centre, and couples counselling at The Grove Practice.

I hold full professional liability insurance and an up-to-date DBS.
